ShoreDog is a café that was created to be a neighborhood meeting place where local folks can bond over great food and great conversation in a casual yet elegant environment. They offer a great farm to table menu anchored by hand-crafted beverages and freshly caught seafood.
How has their business shifted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis?
About two weeks ago Shoredog Café closed their doors in order to follow the recommended CDC guidelines. This allowed Shoredog to safely clean and sanitize the restaurant and protect the staff from interacting with others for a 2 week period. Transforming from a community café to curbside takeout was a decision that didn’t come easily. ShoreDog is a “social” restaurant where members of the community come to see friends and engage with the staff. Now, with limited staff, we have reopened as a Curbside/Takeout restaurant. We still get to see some of our regulars as they pull up in their cars for their curbside orders to go.
What is ShoreDog doing to give back to others?
Since 2015, when Sharon Moody and her family opened the café’s doors to the Westham Community, Shoredog has played a significant role both in their lives and the community. From the early stages ShoreDog was a host to the Freeman Chorus group, held community fundraisers for the Evelyn D Reinhardt Home and has donated to many non-profits in the Richmond community. Now, during the COVID-19 crisis, they have put the health of their staff and community at the forefront. Since this shift in operations to curbside delivery was necessary, Shoredog made a point to send its staff members home with “care packages” of food from inventory on hand to help with their transition.
How can you support this small business during this time?
Hopes are high that we all will someday soon be able to sit down again in the restaurant to meet friends, have business meetings, join each other for happy hour or just stop in to say hello.
