CMG Small Business Strong Features City Barre

City Barre is a small boutique fitness studio that opened about a year and a half ago in Scott’s Addition. They mainly focus on low impact strength training in a high energy, inviting, and beautiful studio space. They pride themselves on keeping workouts fresh with new formats and playlists daily.

How has their business shifted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis?

Within 48 hours of shutting their doors they had pivoted their business model into online classes, offering members both live stream and on-demand classes using equipment they have at home.

What has City Barre done to be innovative and creative in order for their business to survive this economic crisis?

City Barre had to be creative— their members are using chairs as barres, soup cans as weights, and paper plates as gliders—but delivering some sense of routine and stress relief to clients, and quickly, was paramount. They have had a very positive response from their clients and it has truly kept them going through this challenge. Being able to ‘see’ familiar faces on their Zoom classes has kept the sense of normalcy and community. They have even gone ahead with their April Challenge, 20 in 30, that had been previously planned and it’s been met with such positivity. It has helped people keep their accountability for their mental and physical health and because of the lack of limits on class size (and of course because people don’t have a lot else going on), attendance has been at its highest so far this year.

How can you support this small business during this time?

City Barre has a number of specials going on—from new client specials of $12 for your first class or 2 weeks unlimited for $50 to just $39 a week for unlimited live streaming for returning clients. Gift card purchases for future use are also welcome. For more information about City Barre, visit their website at www.city-barre.com
