CMG Small Business Strong Features MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching

MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching is an outpatient mental health practice in North Chesterfield. They see children, adolescents, teens, and adults of any age. They offer individual therapy, couples therapy and family therapy for their clients as well as play therapy for young children. Their practice meets clients where they are and can treat clients with depression, anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder, bipolar disorder, grief, trauma, substance use, or those facing any of life's challenges. Their therapists use a blend of evidence-based approaches to best help clients manage their mental health and experience growth while they are in their services. They accept most major insurances, Medicaid, Medicare, and Tricare. MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching offers teletherapy as a stand-alone service, outside of Coronavirus restrictions, and can treat clients statewide in Virginia via telehealth. Evening and weekend appointments are offered for client convenience for both in-office and telehealth sessions.

How has their small business shifted since the COVID-19 crisis?

MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching has moved to exclusively seeing clients via telehealth since COVID-19 precautions took effect. Since they had launched their teletherapy program in January, they were relieved that they had a secure telehealth platform already developed and tested. Their in-office therapists were all trained on the platform and worked with clients to transition them quickly to telehealth sessions. Many insurance companies have waived co-pays for telehealth appointments during this crisis to allow for greater access as well as to remove financial barriers to mental health services.

What has MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching done to innovative and creative in order for their business to survive this economic crisis?

In thinking of COVID-19 as a collective trauma, MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching is currently focused on how they can serve our community at this time. They started a free virtual support group in April for healthcare providers and first responders to help them through this crisis. They are also working with the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce to offer free virtual mental health meetings bi-weekly throughout this crisis. These meetings are open to the general public and are not restricted to Chamber members.

How can you support this small business during this time?

MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching is still accepting clients during this crisis for telehealth statewide. If clients are local to the Chesterfield area, they can transition to in-office visits once Coronavirus precautions are lifted or remain as telehealth clients. They are fully committed to breaking the stigma associated with mental health services, especially during COVID-19. Depression, sadness, and anxiety can all be situational and they want the community to understand that mental health is as important as physical health during times of crisis. They also urge community members to share their support group information with healthcare providers and first responders! The support group meets twice weekly via a password protected Zoom meeting on Thursdays at 11am and Sundays at 3pm.
