Balance RVA is Virginia's only wellness-based coworking center, catering towards working parents. In addition to traditional co-working amenities, they offer on-site childcare and various wellness services, from chiropractic care and nutritional counseling to infrared treatments. All services are at a significant discount and directly accessible. They were built on the belief that working parents are much more likely to take care of themselves if they do not have to worry about who will watch their kids, or drive 30 minutes across town to get a 10 minute procedure.

How has their business shifted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis?

Balance RVA’s members are made up of 95% small business owners. The combination of self-quarantine guidelines and a complete stop to most small business' revenue has resulted in several members cancelling their memberships. They are honoring all cancellation requests regardless of contractual requirements and suspended billing ("pause" memberships) until this crisis is over. The downstream impact to BRVA is financially devastating, but their core principles are to "serve others" and "always do the right thing." They’re not going to make members go through this alone, they will be with them every step of the way.

What is Balance RVA doing to give back to others?

Balance RVA has created almost 1,000 healthy snack kits for various people and local organizations in need - whether they've needed public support long term or their need is sudden and hopefully short-lived. 100% of the funds for this effort have been donated by Balance RVA staff, and staff’s family and friends.

How can you support this small business during this time?

They ask that everyone support their small business members as much as possible. Balance RVA has always had a sponsorship program to help subsidize fees for members in need, and that population has grown exponentially in the past few weeks. A direct and immediate way of helping BRVA would be to become a sponsor. Sponsors are matched 1:1 with a member in need, and they have full line-of-sight into how every cent of their donation is used. There are many single parents in particular, who are trying to maintain their income while also homeschooling (sometimes multiple) children with virtually no family or community support. In these cases, funds can be applied toward their childcare costs so that they are able to get a few hours to focus on their businesses every day.
