RAWL (Ronald A. Williams Ltd) works with education to provide STEM, pre-engineering, engineering, and workforce training equipment to schools ranging from Kindergarten to University. They are a small, family-owned business covering all the schools in the mid-Atlantic area.
How has their business shifted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis?
RAWL’s business shifted quite a bit. All of the schools are closed for the remainder of the school year, and all of their customers are now working remotely.
What has RAWL done to be innovative and creative in order for their business to survive this economic crisis?
RAWL has been doing video conferencing with their customers and vendors. They have had to adjust to not traveling, and in finding things that can help their customers in the short term and in how they plan for the long term. They are working with SMC to provide virtual mechatronics curriculum to any teacher or student who is interested, with Mastercam to allow students to use their CAM software at home, and with Vex Robotics to provide virtual coding resources so that students can continue their computer science and engineering work remotely.
How can you support this small business during this time?
At this time the community needs to understand how valuable proper school funding is. Everyone can reach out to their delegate, state senator, or congressman and encourage them to continue to support technical education at the state and local level.
