Introducing CMG News Contributor, Paul Schmidt

Paul Schmidt has been a freelance voice actor for 22 years, much of that time also working in digital media and custom software sales and business development. His voiceover experience includes Delta (Airlines, not faucets - yet), Verizon Media, Anthem, Cisco, Mondelēz, EY (Ernst & Young), Merck, Paychex, Deloitte, and hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses in commercials, political voiceovers, corporate and branded content, explainer videos, e-learning and corporate training, medical narration, and non-fiction audiobooks.

He has worked with some great teams and learned from some of the best in the business which has allowed him to some career highlights:

  • Sell multi-million dollar web applications to global multi-hundred-million dollar corporations.

  • Be the top seller in multiple companies and blow sales quotas out of the water by 200%+.

  • Grow a sales department by 500% revenue in three+ years.

  • Close more than $40,000 of freelance voiceover work in an 11-day span.

When he took his voiceover business full time, Paul already had a solid sales background and was an experienced marketer. He had a process, a plan, and a business development mindset. Many freelancers and creative entrepreneurs do not- and that can be deadly to a business.

In addition to his voiceover business, Paul has launched Paul Schmidt Coaching to help freelancers, creative entrepreneurs, and solopreneurs develop a replicable, scalable, effective sales/business development practice. He has also partnered with CreativeMktGroup to help voice actors develop their brand identity, marketing, and social media presence.

He's an avid sports fan, and cheers for the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, a fan of Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball, VCU basketball, and UR football. Paul lives in Richmond's Far West End with his son, Robbie, and has been in a torrid love affair with Richmond since he moved here in 2012.

As a CMG News Contributor, Paul is going to use his extensive experience in media, coaching, freelance work and business development to help small businesses, startups, and nonprofits learn how to navigate this field. We are collaborating to ensure our community and clients have the knowledge to grow to the next level.
