Local Salsa Company Creates Online Store During Pandemic

Salsas Don Sebastian LLC was started in 2017 while owner, America DeLoach, was working as a Spanish teacher for Chesterfield County Public Schools. She had a salsa recipe from her husband's grandmother created in the 1900's that she began to make at home and for friends, coworkers, and neighbors. It was always a hit, which motivated America to start a business. She started to do her own research on what was already available at the grocery stores and realized that all the salsas had a lot of sugar, tons of preservatives and none were local.

She created Salsas Don Sebastian and started by selling her salsas at one Farmers Market. She was giving out samples and people really liked it. She branched out to another farmers market and customers were asking if they had to wait until Saturday to get more salsas. She decided to look for a grocery store to sell her product full-time and got her salsa on Ellwood Thompson’s shelves. She now has 70 stores and 8 farmers markets that carry her products.

Before COVID, Salsas Don Sebastian didn't have an online store. They created a website so customers were able to order online and pick up their order from their store. They had to sign up for more online Farmers Markets to be able to stay afloat and hire more people to help me with production. They also collaborated with several neighborhood organizers to be a part of their weekly food vendors in their neighborhoods. Salsas Don Sebastian branched out into delivery, offering their products on GrubHub and Door Dash. eep up with production and demand.

They believe that we should all support each other in these tough times. For this reason, they decided to take some space from their new place and create a local store where customers can purchase only local products in one stop. With this, the community can help other local vendors at the same time that they are helping Salsas Don Sebastian. They believe the best way to support all of us is to understand the importance of buying and supporting local. To learn more about them or order online, visit their website at www.salsasdonsebastian.com.
